Another approach on Women Empowerment – Insights into a European-funded project on engagement, leadership and work-life-balance

Date

On 20 June 2024, World Refugee Day, Pro Arbeit participated in the final conference of the European-funded WORLDPLACES project in Brussels and was able to take away new impetus for the topic of EDI from this innovative project for women.

The WORLDPLACES project involves partners from Italy, Portugal, Greece, Belgium, Austria and Germany as well as pan-European organisations such as the European Network for Migrant Women. The consortium’s common goal is to promote better and more fulfilling integration of migrant women in the workplace. To this end, the project has organised Europe-wide activities and workshops on various topics: Migrant women’s engagement, leadership, work-life balance, linguistic and cultural exchange in the workplace, body and identity.

The conference entitled ‘Worldplaces for Migrant Women’, which dealt with the access and participation of migrant women in the European labour market, was organised by the European Network of Migrant Women. This network is particularly committed to making the voices of migrant women heard through integration into the labour market.

During the day, projects and policy issues related to the participation of migrant women in the labour market were discussed. In addition, creative workshops were offered and handicrafts made by migrant women were exhibited.

A toolkit was developed as part of the project, focusing primarily on providing methods for activities in the areas of confidence building, body and identity and cultural heritage, as well as creating safe spaces for migrant women and girls. By promoting a better understanding of the issues faced by migrant, asylum-seeking and refugee women in Europe, by encouraging professionals to develop intercultural and feminist approaches, and by fostering collaboration between professionals and women in practice, the project has helped migrant women and girls to better realise their rights.

The innovative ideas, new contacts and lively impressions gained on this day will be used by Pro Arbeit for the further successful and sustainable implementation of EDIFY in the district of Offenbach.
